Weinhaus Schreiner

Rheinstr. 38, 55116 Mainz. (06131 225720)

Very low profile establishment from the outside, stuck on the busy Rheinstraße you could easily miss it. Make sure you don't and you will be well rewarded.

A reasonably large wine restaurant in typical rustic deco, you quickly forget about the outside world.
The menu has a good variety of regional dishes, most given an extra twist of flavours and combinations from the cook. You won't be eating battered schnitzel and fried potatoes here.

Starter (Mainz test):
Probably the best spuendekaes to be found in Mainz, served with a bowl of salz-brezeln and brown bread. Enough for 4 people to share as a starter. 7 Euros.

Mains:
Meat perfectly cooked and with tasty sauces.
e.g. ever-so-slightly-red-inside veal with homemade filled pasta triangles and a pumpkin sauce. Mostly around the 14 Euros mark.

Dessert:
Chocolate tart to die for. A chocolate sponge cake filled with warm chocolate sauce. 5 Euros.

Wine:
Very good selection of open regional wines at prices around 3.50 Euros a glass.

Payment:
All cards are accepted here.

Here you are guaranteed a splendid meal. Reasonable price and good ambiance make this restaurant stand out amongst the many Mainz wine inns.
